say what?

Upon Brody's return from preschool, this is how our conversation went.

Me: How was school today?
Brody: Good.
Me: What did you do today?
Brody: I rode bikes and played with Johnny. Johnny was spider-man.
Me: Who were you?
Brody: Justin Bieber.
Me: Say what??? All while trying to hide my giggling.

I love Brody and his 4 year old little self. He makes me smile and giggle...alot.

p.s. Never in a million years would I have ever imagined that I would be posting about Justin Bieber on our family blog.

kids {mine} say the cutest things

While were having dinner with John's family the other night, we were filling them in on the upcoming surgeries that would be happening in our family. One of the Aunts wanted to know what tooth would be removed from Garrett's mouth. Garrett explained that he had three "teenager" teeth (referring to his top front teeth)instead of just two. We were laughing so hard. To this 7 year old, they are not adult teeth, they are known as "teenager" teeth. So funny!

walking

The older boys walk to school each Wednesday. They are part of the Walk to School Club. Brody and I like to join them when we can. It is quite the sight, about 95% of the student body walks/rides their bikes to school. On one of the days that we walked, Brody and I were on our way home when Brody said, "My shoes are so tired". It was so cute and so funny! I had tried to give him a Piggy Back ride home but was having a hard time after attending a Fit Club class that was all about our legs that day. Needless to say, we made it home and rested our "shoes". I love that little boy.

this boy

As crazy as he can make me on any given day with all of his mischief, he can also make me smile and giggle myself silly. On our way to Wal*Mart, he asked me if we were going to buy candy. I told him no, we were going to buy milk, yogurt and bread. He then said, "you forgot to say candy". I told him we weren't buying candy. He then said, "we can buy milk ,yogurt, bread AND candy. Is that a Deal"???. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to say "deal". Oh, how the three year old mind works...and where in the world did he learn how to make a deal?
p.s. I love this little boy.

you know he's not a baby (anymore) when...

Brody is usually the first one up at our house. He gets up about 6:30 am every morning. Today wasn't any different. He crawled into bed with me and we were running down the list of family members. He was asking if Daddy had already left for work. Then he asked if each of his brothers(he asked about them one by one) were still sleeping. I replied "Yes" to all of his questions. When he was a baby, we used to ask him this same question all of the time "How big is Brody"? Each and every time, he would raise his hands high above his head and answer "So big"! This morning while snuggling with him and trying to relish in the last stages of babyhood (that are long gone), I asked him< "How big is Brody"? He replied "taller". This my friends, is when I realized that he just isn't a baby anymore...he is taller. It caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud. I love this boy! I need to learn to embrace the fact that the baby stage is a thing of the past. Hello, taller big boy!

for your giggling pleasure...

This kiddo is totally into dressing himself. He changes his outfit multiple times a day. the laundry situation is driving me crazy. The silver lining is the endless giggles I get when he walks out of his room, strutting his stuff & so very proud of himself. He has had a really bad cough. He doesn't cough unless he runs :-). We all know how good 2 1/2 year olds are at sitting still. His cough kept him home from church on sunday. John & I split church time. I went to the first part & then met John & Brody in the parking lot. When I climbed into the car, John said, "Beware. He is going to cry. He dressed himself & thinks he is going to nursery." Look at that outfit. At least he got the right sweater on (inside out), Garrett's basket ball shorts, blue church socks & garrett's church shoes. Oh, how I love this little boy. There is never-ever a dull moment!

**Make sure to pause the music player on the left!

At 2 1/2, this boy continues to crack me up on a daily basis.
This is his new favorite toy to lug around the house! For days now, I thought he was saying he wanted to go to Target -LOL!

Simple acts

While deep cleaning the bathroom this week, I found this little gem hiding behind the tissue box holder.

My Grandma Davis sent this to me a few years back. She was always so great about sending little notes & comics in the mail. By this simple act, you knew she was thinking of you! There is a big smile on my face while thinking about her today. Tanner & Carter have mentioned several times this week that they really miss Great Grandma. I miss her too! This little comic is going back in the bathroom. This time I am taping it to the mirror so I can see it everyday!
I challenge you to do something today that will make some one else smile!
Have a good one!

garrett funnies & family tradtions

The boys headed back to school this week...happy days for everyone!
Each night at the dinner table, we share our happy & sads from our day. This is something my parents started way back when with my family when we were all little. Now it is a tradition we have carried on with, with our own little family. This is how it works, we go around the table & each family member gets a turn to share what made them happy/sad that day. With such crazy, busy lives, this really gives us a chance to check in with each of our children to see what was important to them that day. Carter came home on Monday & shared with us how excited his classmates were to see him after being out sick the entire week before Spring Break. He said that made him feel really happy because everyone was giving him hugs & telling him that he was missed. Then he went on to tell us that he was still really sad about missing the ONE & only field trip his class would take this school year. He was also sad that he missed the cultural pot luck day in the classroom. Each child was asked to make & bring something to share with the class that represented their heritage. Carter went on to tell us that he missed Daniel's Russian food. He missed Emmanuel's egg rolls & had he been there, he would have shared something German. Well, Garrett had to pipe in & give his two cents. He said "well ya Carter, I would have brought my North Carolina food". John & I were laughing so hard. This boy has never even been to North Carolina. Can you tell that our family just recently enjoyed/experienced March Madness, North Carolina style - LOL? North Carolina is John's favorite basketball team & now it is Garrett's favorite team too!
GOOOOOO Tar Heels!

One more Garrett funny. I was getting all of the ingredients out to make John's birthday cake this week & Garrett asked if he could help. I said sure & told him to wash his hands. He pulls the chair over to the counter & points to me & says " I need to wear one of those". He was pointing to my apron, of course & then proceeded to get one of his own. I helped him put in on & told him I needed to get a picture. After I snapped the picture he said, "Don't put that on your blog Mom". With out further ado, because he looked so cute, here was his apron of choice for cake baking.

I love this little boy so much & the laughter he brings to me on a daily basis with his quick whit & sense of humor.

A Garrett funny

So I missed posting this back on St. Patrick's Day but wanted to make sure I had it recorded somewhere. On St. Patrick's Day, I was a bad Mom & sent Tanner & Carter off to school w/out having them wear green because I forgot what day it was. It is the only holiday that I don't totally get into. I'm not sure why, but I just don't...maybe next year. Any way, I remembered it was St. Patty's day just in time to send Garrett off to speech class. I told him to go & find a green shirt, QUICK. When he came out with a green shirt on, I told him we could go pinch Daddy because it was St. Patrick's Day & daddy wasn't wearing green. Garrett wouldn't pinch him (on any other day I would have said "good boy"), he wasn't getting the whole St. Patrick's Day tradition. My friend Steph drove Garrett to speech that day & when she brought him home, she said I need to tell you what Garrett said today. I always hold my breath for these kind of conversations because I never know what will come out of my 4 yr.olds mouth - LOL.
She said at first she wasn't sure what he was talking about...but after putting two & two together, she got it!!! Garrett was saying "it is Patrick's Day today, we are wearing green"

He then proceeded to tell Timothy & Stephanie that "tomorrow is Spongebob day so we all need to wear yellow". Too funny! He thought that if we had a day of celebration for 'Patrick', well then we surely we have a day of celebration for Spongebob. Totally makes sense, right!?!? Mark your calendar folks. From now on, March 18th is the official Spongebob day.

Don't forget to wear yellow or Garrett just might pinch you.

grandma & the weekend funnies

Amidst the sadness we felt while attending Grandmas funeral this past weekend, there were bright rays of sunshine that we felt & experienced through it all. Her service was wonderful. I think the day was exactly as she would have wanted it...to be surrounded by friends, family, fond memories, laughter & lots of yummy food! My Mom did a wonderful job with the Eulogy & described Grandma & her life to a "T".
My Grandma was always up for a a good party & that is what Saturday felt like, minus the tears. It really was a wonderful day in which we were able to remember & honor her & spend time with family & friends.

{the Davis children: Sommer, Brandon, Amber, Tyson & me}

(my family: Sommer, Brandon, Amber, Raimi,, Tyson, Mom & Dad}

These are the flowers that graced the top of Grandmas casket.

We were all able to place a few of these roses on her casket before she was laid to rest. It really was a wonderful day. Thanks again for all of the kind words, hugs, notes, & phone calls.

On to the weekend funnies. We had a little time to waste before the funeral. We ended up driving around town, showing the boys where we went to school & where we hung out, etc... We were stopped @ a light by a Home Depot. All of a sudden Garrett exclaimed "hey those guys are waiting to be picked for the football team". John & I turned around to see what he was referring to & there stood three different groups of labor workers, standing on the sidewalk in groups, waiting for work. We laughed so hard. In Garrett's eyes, men huddled together = a great football game waiting to be played.

Then on Sunday evening, I was going through the Sunday paper & Brody noticed Steve Martin on the cover of the Parade magazine. He immediately began to yell "Grandpa, Grandpa, Grandpa". I am not sure what is funnier...1). that he thinks Grandpa looks like Steve Martin or 2). that Steve Martin looks my Dad. I think it must be the hair color-sorry Dad :). Brody did not just stop with the yelling of Grandpa's name, he then began to give Grandpa, aka Steve Martin kisses. It was very funny & tender.

Totally COOL!

I have been on a major cleaning binge. I am throwing things out, making room for everything. Brody & Garrett's room was my target last night. I threw out/gave away two big Hefty bags worth of Stuff(toys, clothes, garbage, etc...) not to mention the 150 books I put in storage bins for the garage. Their room was a nightmare. Brody literally dumps "everything " out of every single bin, swipes every book, off every shelf & empties ALL the clothes drawers. This is a daily occurrence & is wearing me out. Hence, the motivation to purge everything!

The whole point to this post is that while I was cleaning, I found some of Garrett's clothes that were buried under something or another. He was elated to find that I had re-discovered his ROCKSTAR shirt & Carter's old black track pants that are now his. Got love the whole 4 boys thing & hand me downs. Well, when I walked out of my room this morning, there stood Garrett in the outfit, mentioned above. He asked, "Mom, do I look totally cool"? He had his hands in his pockets & his cute little head tilted. It was so stinkin' funny & cute! And for the record, I do think you look totally cool G-man.

Progress

Many of you know our little Garrett. For those of you that don't, he is such a busy body & constantly on the move. One thing you need to know about this boy is that he is smart & is such a happy boy. He does everything (okay, most everything) with a smile on his face. He is just happy to be & has a great sense of humor. So last October, we were finally able to get him into speech program through the school district. It was very hard to understand him & he struggled with some of the letter sounds. With the help of some amazing teachers, he has made tremendous progress. I took him to see Miss Lori yesterday for an evaluation. He walked in & as clear as day said "Hi Miss Lori! I have had a fun summer". She asked him what kind of things he had done over the summer & he began to list our outings, Lake Tahoe, the water park, having our cousins visit, etc.... Miss Lori just looked up to me & said " WOW, he has come a long way just over the summer break". So as part of his evaluation yesterday, she would show him pictures of things & he needed to tell her what those things were used for or how HE might use them. She showed him a picture of a pair of shoes & said "Where do you put these"? Garrett looked @ her & said "In the garage". She started to laugh & so did I. She said "Lets try this again. Where else do you put these". Garrett looked @ her & said "on the rack". I was cracking up @ this point. That is exactly where we put our shoes. We have a rack in the garage & that is where you can find our shoes. She finally got him to tell her that you put shoes on your feet -lol!

Garrett will now attend one speech class, once a week. Last year he had speech class 3 times a week. She said, with this new class, he will be ready for kindergarten or may be ready even before that. I am just so proud of him & the progress he has made. John & I just laugh... now we can't get him to be quiet :).
