Mother's Day 2014

Happy Mother's Day!
My Mother's Day started with church...just how I like to start my Sundays. I think it could have been a little more enjoyable had I not been asked to give a talk on Mother's Day. I  told John that I could really enjoy my day, once the talk was given. Honestly, it wasn't so bad. I was just happy to have checked that off of my "to do" list.

John and the boys spoiled me. I received very sweet cards from each of the boys. The fill in the blanks are my favorite. They also gave me a gift certificate to my favorite nail place so  I can get a pedicure. I also received a new swimsuit and skirt to match/cover up. I had finally found the perfect suit while out shopping with my Mom. I had put it on hold and told him about  it. He listened but forgot which store I had found it out. Poor guy had to hit a few of my favorites stores in the mall before finding the right one. I love him even more for going on the hunt until he found it.

They made me dinner and homemade peach cobbler. YUM!!! It was a wonderful day.

I am thankful for my own mother and her kindness, love and Christ like example. I am thankful for the opportunity that I have to be a mother. I love my boys and am thankful that Heavenly Father trusts me enough to send these amazing boys to our home.

I love this quote from Gordon B. Hinckley. It reads as follows.

“Most of you are mothers, and very many of you are grandmothers and even great-grandmothers. You have walked the sometimes painful, sometimes joyous path of parenthood. You have walked hand in hand with God in the great process of bringing children into the world that they might experience this estate along the road of immortality and eternal life. It has not been easy rearing a family. Most of you have had to sacrifice and skimp and labor night and day. As I think of you and your circumstances, I think of the words of Anne Campbell, who wrote as she looked upon her children:

You are the trip I did not take;

You are the pearls I cannot buy;

You are my blue Italian lake;

You are my piece of foreign sky.

You [mothers] are the real builders of the nation wherever you live, for you have created homes of strength and peace and security. These become the very sinew of any nation.” Gordon B. Hinckley, “Women of the Church,” Ensign, Nov 1996, 67

Thank you for being the quiet examples and builders of our nation. May you feel the love of our Heavenly Father and know how important each of our roles, as mothers and women are, here on this earth. Happy Mother’s Day to each one of you!

W.I.W.S. - What I Wore Sunday

 Here is the Mother's Day edition of W.I.W.S.. John is so good about catching me each Sunday(to snap some photos) before I change out of my church clothes. I am usually the last one home. Sundays are usually filled with meetings for me. I originally started these W.I.W. S. posts in hopes of getting back to blogging on a regular basis. I have the photos but not the consistent blog posts. I still love blogging and catching up with friends via their blogs. Hint, hint to those who need to update their blogs.  I am hoping to do better!

My Mom came up to visit, a week before Mother's Day. She insisted that we go shopping to find my Mother's Day present. She is my Mom, but always buys me a Mother's Day present. So fun! We hit Target and the mall. I ended up finding this new navy blue skirt at Down East Basics. She bought it for me and I bought myself the top. The cardigan in from Old Navy and the necklace is from, wait for it... Wal-Mart. They had the cute bauble necklaces on an end cap, in all of the super fun colors. They were only $5.00. I may or may not have picked up a couple -LOL! For $5.00, I was sold.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you fabulous women. Thank you for being wonderful examples to me.

Mother's Day 2013

This was not my favorite Mother's Day! I was running around the Friday before Mother's Day, checking things off of my to-do list, feeling just fine. I left Target about 1:45 pm and headed over to pick Tanner and Carter up from school. As I was driving, I began to feel warm and very tired. I barely made it home. I crawled right into bed and did not get out of bed until Sunday morning. I was knocked out with the flu. My boys were excited for me to come our to the kitchen on Mother's Day. When I finally made my way out there, this is was I found. John had carved out the letters to spell" Happy Mother's Day". What a fun fruit bowl. It looked too cute to eat.

I have been in desperate need of some new shirts. Instead of torturing John. By torturing, I mean having him go out and try to find what I like, I took care of it for him. I told him not to wrap any of it. I was happy to have new shirts. While I was sick in bed, he wrapped it all up so I had things to open on Mother's Day. There are no pictures of my Mother's day festivities due to the 24 hour flu :). Instead, I will show you my stash of cute,basic clothes :).
I hope all of the Mother's(my own Mom, Grandmas, Sisters, cousins, YW leaders, friends) had a wonderful Mother's Day. I am very thankful for each one of their influences in my own life.

Mother's Day in the kindergarten class

I was invited to Brody's kindergarten class, along with all of the other students and their Mother's. We enjoyed a Mother's Day program. We were greeted by our children and given a corsage to wear. There was also a little ALL ABOUT ME (according to Brody) purse. It was so cute.

 The children sang a few songs. My favorite was the M-O-M, imagine M-O-M was her name-o, sung to the tune of B-I-N-G-O was his Name-o.

The children each took a turn sharing what they loved most about their Mom and presented us with a picture that they  had painted of us. Brody informed me that he had dropped some paint on my face. I am glad he clarified that one because I took a good long look in the mirror when I got home to see if I had a new mole/freckle pop up on my face that I wasn't aware of.

What a treat it was to spend time with Brody, his classmates and the other Mothers. It was a delightful morning. I feel so blessed to be a Mom and to be a part of sweet days like this this!

Happy Mother's Day...

{my Dad, My Mom, & Me(2 months old.) Dec. 1974

to the best Mom in the world! I can't let the day pass without giving a shout out to my Mom. She is simply the best. She is my ROCK. She is everything to me. She is the glue that holds our family together. She always does the right thing. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. She is the hardest working woman I have ever met. She raised 5 children with LOVE. She has 10 grandchildren who simply adore her. She has a strong testimony of Jesus Christ & lives her life in a way that patterns his. She takes the high road even when it's hard. She is a scrapbooker. She loves to read. She was there for each of my children's births(that means so much to me). She is a fabulous public speaker. She makes the cutest denim quilts & each grandchild will eventually get one. She makes the best sugar cookies in the world. She is a great pen pal. She is super crafty. She has been successful in a career that can often times make one feel sad & overwhelmed. She can sew & I am happy she shares that talent with me(it's not my favorite thing in the world to do). She made all 250 of our wedding invites, scrapbook style...before it was the "IN" thing to do. She gives great advice. She is a thoughtful friend. She loves good music. She is a talented writer. She makes the best homemade crescent rolls. She loves to shop. She is a great road trip companion. She has great faith.
I could go on & on...I just want my Mom to know that I LOVE her & think the world of her. I am so thankful for her constant example of how to be kind & how we should always treat one another with love & respect. I could have not picked a better woman to call Mother. I LOVE you Mom! You're the best!

Belated Mother's Day Tea

Our school had STAR testing everyday last week. So instead of interrupting their testing schedule, the room moms in Tanner's class hosted a belated Mother's Day tea yesterday. We met our children in the classroom during the last 45 minutes of school. They had created a place mat for each one of us Moms & served us lunch while we sat & visited. We had finger sandwiches, yummy strawberries, scones, different flavors of tea, juice(I opted for the juice)& chocolate cake. What a treat! I am glad that I was able enjoy lunch with Tanner & his classmates. After we were done eating, each student had to introduce their Mom & say what they like or appreciate about her. Some of the kids answers were funny. One boy said that his Mom knows how to make the best Top Ramen. Another boy said he appreciated that his Mom was "Kind of nice". Another boy went into a long winded story about how his Mom was picked up 15 feet off the ground when a Tornado had hit many years ago. I gathered a ton of info in that short 10 minutes of introductions-LOL. Tanner said that he likes that I am a good cook & that I am kind. It was very sweet of him. It was a wonderful afternoon with Tanner.

Mother's Day 2008

Happy Mother's Day to each of you!

I enjoyed a fabulous Mother's Day weekend. We had a busy weekend. We enjoyed baseball games, a photo shoot for Brody's first birthday pictures, date night for John & I, a trip to Santa Cruz, & Mother's Day/Brody's 1st birthday dinner with the family. Whew, we packed a ton of activities into this short weekend. It was wonderful to be able to spend some time with my family & watch all of the cousins run & play. They sure do love getting together. My boys made me some wonderful cards, treats, & even spoiled me with a gift cards to Green Tangerines. I received one from the boys & one from John. I am so grateful to have these boys in my life & for the chance I get to be their Mom. I pray every day for help. I pray that I am doing what I need to do raise these boys right. I am so blessed to have a wonderful mother who has taught me all I know. I am thankful for her wonderful example, testimony of the Gospel & Love. I am thankful for my Mother & Law. She passed away almost 12 years ago (on June 1st). I am thankful for the son she raised. John is wonderful & I am grateful to my Mother in Law for teaching him & for raising him right.

Again, Happy Mother's Day. I hope your family spoiled each of your rotten. You deserve it!
