halloween 2013

This day could not get here fast enough. 6  p.m. could not get here fast enough...according to the littles. Carter had a basketball game and Tanner had a football game and John attended both It was just Garrett, Brody and I.

We had to get the traditional pictures on the porch.
 Garrett, the blue morph man.

 Brody went as Captain America.

Garrett went trick or treating with some baseball buddies.

Brody and Sam ran from house to house. Those boys are speedy!

Brody was happy with his haul after an  hour. We headed home to light our pumpkins pass out candy.

Garrett came home for about 30 seconds to empty his pillowcase and then headed back out.

The older boys finally got home and went to a couple of houses for some treats. Brody was so happy to see them.
We hope you and yours had a happy and safe Halloween!

Trunk or Treat #1

We attended the Trunk or Treat over at the elementary school tonight. It was fun and festive. The boys loved putting on/wearing their costumes. We had a dirt bike rider and The Super Mario brother, Luigi. They loved all of the carnival like games. They loved sitting in the Police car and being able to turn the lights on. They loved running into their classmates/friends and checking out their costumes. They especially loved going  from car to car to Trunk or Treat!

This is a site that I don't EVER want to see again :-). Brody was all smiles!

Can you say, " C-A-N-D-Y?????"

Halloween countdown

I saw this Halloween countdown calendar over on the Jillibean Soup blog. I knew the boys would love it. I headed down to my favorite local scrapbook store,Green Tangerines to gather all the supplies I needed. The next step was to find the perfect frame. It only took me two tries at our local Goodwill stores. $5.00 later, and I was out of there with my perfect frame. A stop at Home Depot for black spray paint and I was on my way home.

Only 17 more days until Halloween!

happy halloween
I am not sure how many times I heard the question "is it time to trick or treat yet" from our boys. They were so excited that they just couldn't stand it. We had a day filled with soccer games. We were in El Dorado Hills, S. Lake Tahoe & Roseville for games. John took Tanner to his Lake Tahoe game while I got dinner& hot apple cider(wasil) ready. John's sister, Kristina came down from yuba City & decorated our yard. We enjoyed White chicken chili & Lorelie's cornbread for dinner, YUMMY! Here are our little trick or treaters before they hit the neighborhood.

We love Halloween in our neighborhood. There were 100's of trick or treaters running through the streets. We love to visit with our neighbors & check out each other's costumes. The decorations are always fun.

The amount of candy that our boys received this year was insane! I think the candy fairy is going to have to pay a visit to our home tonight.

carving jack's

Another favorite tradition at our house each year. The boys did really well cleaning out their own pumpkins & even helped carve them this year.

Here are a few favorite photos from our evening.

Harvest Party

Today was Tanner's Fall Harvest party, formally known as a Halloween Party. We have to be so PC now that we can't call these things what they really are. I am the party planner (aka room Mom) for Tanner's 5th grade class this year.

We decorated sugar cookies. We made crafts. They had their choice of a bat, mummy or pumpkin. I found the pattern for the bat online but needed something that was so not Halloweenish, but more Fall to stay with in the PC guidelines. My super talented friend, Mer, created a pumpkin template for me. Thanks Mer! They wrapped either their mummy, bat, or pumpkin around a full sized Hershey bar. I had to a make a deal with them though. The deal was that they would not eat the candy bar at school since they had had sugar cookies, juice & doughnuts :-).

The kids enjoyed a doughnut eating contest. They had to kneel on the ground, with their hands behind their back & get the doughnut off the string & into their mouth w/out it falling onto the ground. It is harder that it sounds. Only 4 kids were able to accomplish this task...Tanner being one of them. I am still waiting for those photos. They also had a chance to guess how many candy corn were in the jars.

We had a great time. Several kids told the teacher that is was the BEST party they had ever had at school. That made all of the time & prep work that was put into the 40 minute party, all worth it.

boo'ed

This was a new tradition for our family when we moved here to Roseville, 6 1/2 years ago. We had never been BOO'ed when we lived in San Jose or Campbell. The idea behind the Boo'ing is that you leave your friends & neighbors a treat on their porch, ring the bell & RUN!!!!! Then they have two days to turn around & BOO someone else. Once your house has been Boo'ed, you put a little sign on your door that lets your friends & neighbors know that you have already been Boo'ed. It is a fun tradition that the kids look forward to each year.

This photo was taken in our car as we were leaving to BOO some friends. it made for a FUN Family Night.

long time no post. It has been a busy week. I have been running around getting ready for our annual trunk or treat party. There is nothing like throwing a party for 200 (plus) of your closest friends-lol. Talk about overwhelming.Lots of running around today trying to tie up some loose ends. I took the boys to the pumpkin patch yesterday after school. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there were still pumpkins left. We have never gone this late in the month.

Needless to say, we had an awesome time. We fed the farm animals, jumped in the hay bounce,

mined for marbles,

went down the HUGE bumpy slide, smiled for Carter has he took @ least 100 photos (where do you think he learned that?),

picked pumpkins,

& had hot dogs for dinner. We had a great time. We all woke up with a few mosquito bites-uughhh! carter has one smack dab in the middle of his forehead. i keep telling him not to scratch it...we have a family photo shoot for our Christmas card photos this Saturday! That is all we need for the perfect photo, one huge scab in the middle of that boys forehead. Pray for no scratching.
We carved our pumpkins after making it home from the patch.

The boys did an awesome job designing their own faces. Dad helped them cut them out.

They turned out pretty cute. Brody kept trying to eat the pumpkins. Or maybe he was trying to kiss them...who knows??? It was funny.

Stayed tuned for trunk or treat photos tomorrow night.
